OEM Technology Solutions gets the Y2K bugs out of Sydney WaterIn a bid to ensure Sydney Water's Illawarra water board is Y2K compliant, the board has undertaken an extensive project worth around $A1.2 million to upgrade its system and network. Sydney Water requested tenders for the radio ethernet network to replace its existing high speed Telstra network with a more cost-effective and reliable solution at the end of 1998. Kevin Storer, Project Engineer, Illawarra IICATS upgrade project said, "OEM Technology Solutions won the contract because they complied with the specifications for the ethernet radio network and their solution was the best value for money. I expect the main savings in operational costs to be in phone line costs. This will be in the order of $A20,000 per annum." OEM Technology Solutions' solution encompassed the whole spectrum from the technical complexity of the design, installation, testing and coordination of the project right down to the manufacture and design of the cabinets that housed the wireless systems. The project was managed by Richard Gobee, Managing Director of OEM Technology Solutions while James McLeod, CEO of OEM Technology Solutions, fulfilled the all important Site Safety Director role.
